We stopped at this hotel overnight en-route through France on our way home. I'm not sure where it was - somewhere in the middle. We rarely book hotels in advance (unless we are near a great one previously discovered) as it's fun to see where you end up.
This was in a rather nondescript village and the hotel wasn't particularly promising from the outside but when we walked in I was completely taken aback by the crazy interior.
Such a melange of colour, pattern, furniture and objets it's hard to take it all in!
I love how the French go for these massive murals, though they are increasingly hard to find as they really went out of fashion in the 80s. In a way murals take the place of the large scale tapestries traditional in French chateaux, back in 'l'epoque'. I've posted another one French 1970s Hotel Mural
Big effort with the lighting effects.
It's hard to work out what is real and what is picture and the difference in scale between the soup tureen and the water mill is bizarre.
You just don't know where to let your eye come to rest...............
I really loved the richness of the interior - I wish people thought of designing public spaces like this more often.
